About the Institution
State Sete Bill 1300, passed in 1977, became a landmark piece of legislation for East Texas: through it, the Health Science Center became a component of The University of Texas System.
That bill authorized UTHSCT to pursue its current three-fold mission of excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.
Today, with more than 20 outpatient clinics, a hospital, and an Emergency Care Center, UT Health Science Center has over 164,000 visits a year and more than 3,000 inpatient admissions each year.
