About the Institution
The Ohio State University, commonly referred to as Ohio State, is a public research university located in Columbus, Ohio. It was originally founded in 1870 as a land-grant university and is currently the third largest university campus in the United States.[6][7] Ohio State has been officially designated as the flagship institution of Ohio's public universities[8] by the newly centralized University System of Ohio. It also includes regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark, and Wooster. Ohio State athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively known as the Ohio State Buckeyes. They compete in the Big Ten Conference for most sports.
