About the Institution
Manhattan School of Music is for visionaries ? students, faculty, guest artists, and audiences. Our young artists at MSM are trained by some of the world?s best-known musicians who are committed to realizing their talent and human development. Our dynamic faculty of teaching artists hails from New York?s most renowned ensembles: the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the orchestras of the New York City Opera and New York City Ballet.
The New York Times has heralded MSM performances as ?vibrant,? ?infectious,? ?fresh,? ?nervy,? ?lively,? ?scrappy,? and ?engaging.? Our students have the chance to take the stage in more than 600 public performances a year, some of them offsite at venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. We also offer valuable service opportunities through community engagement and arts-in-education programs.
Our new Center for Music Entrepreneurship gives young artists the fundamental tools for a life in music today. This program, combined with our outstanding faculty, location, and tradition of excellence, makes MSM a more exceptional place than ever from which to launch a career. Our alumni are successful in every aspect of musical life?performing, composing, teaching, producing, and recording?and many are among the most distinguished artists on stages around the world.
