About the Institution
Lakehead is a comprehensive University with a reputation for innovative programs and cutting-edge research. With campuses located in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Lakehead has over 7,900 students and 2,250 faculty and staff. At both campuses, our faculty, staff, programs, and services team up to provide an extensive range of learning choices and alternatives that offer an unbeatable combination of quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Lakehead University is known for its multidisciplinary teaching approach, and its emphasis on collaborative learning and independent critical thinking. Located at the head of Lake Superior, Lakehead's Thunder Bay Campus is one of the most beautiful campuses in Canada. Fieldwork complements the academic component of many Lakehead programs, including Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism; Natural Resources Management; Environmental Studies; Geology; Biology; and Geography, all of which have been designed to take advantage of the natural laboratories around Northwestern Ontario. Northern socio-economic issues are addressed in programs such as Sociology, Commerce, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Indigenous Learning, and Teacher Education. Lakehead's Engineering program is unique in Canada, combining a diploma program in Engineering Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering degree program. Lakehead's Thunder Bay campus is also home to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (West Campus). Lakehead's Orillia Campus opened in 2006, and in September 2010 opened the doors to the new Academic Building. This is the first phase in the development of Canada
