About the Institution
PALAWAN STATE UNIVERSITY was founded as a teacher-training institutions on March 2, 1972 when it was established as Palawan Teachers College through Republic Act 4303 with Dr. Walfrido R. Ponce de Leon as its first president. Bill 9167, authored by former Cong. Gaudencio Abordo providing for the creation of PTC was passed by both Houses of Representatives and the Senate as early as April and May 1995, respectively. It was supposed to start operation in SY 1966; however, the College’s authorized appropriation was not included for that fiscal year until the authorized amount of P500,000.00 was included in the General Appropriation Acts for Fiscal Year 1972. Now on its 27th year, PSU had made its mark on the community it is mandated to serve. In spite of the meager budget, the University has continued to respond to the needs and challenges of its populace and has evolved to be a center of academic excellence and quality education in Palawan as it performs its triad of functions: instruction, research and extension. The University is manned by dedicated, qualified and experienced 336 faculty and 107 non-academic personnel.
