Knowing Yourself

The first step in preparation for the rest of your life should start with knowing yourself. We want to help you discover your talents, abilities, values and inclinations. There is a world of opportunities waiting for you and the first step in embracing these opportunities starts with knowing more about yourself.

Try to answer these 10 important questions:

1. What things you feel you do very well?

Think about what skills, abilities or talents you have, look at what task you have accomplished. Than ask friends and family to tell you what they think you do very well. You might be surprised by their answers.

2. Is there something that challenges you?

Think about the things that challenge you or excite you, things that you wish you could do more or learn more about. These could be areas of study or work that can keep you interest for long periods of time.

3. What do you do for fun?

To choose a course, college or university you also need to think about your favorite activities, things you love to do and enjoy. You may start to see trend in the possible directions for future success.

4. Who are the people you admire?

Think about the people you look up to, they may be celebrities, leaders, business owners, family members, entrepreneurs or somebody your know. By considering these people you can discover something about what you value, look at what it is about them you like and what about their lives you would like to model .

5. What have you always wanted to do, but have not done it yet?

Choosing a college and university has a lot to do with your interest and how much value you place on them. Consider the things you have not done and the reasons for wanting to do them. Do you find the activity exciting? What do you expect to get out of it?

6. What has made you proud?

Think about the accomplishments or activities that made you feel proud, it may not be a good grade or a trophy, but it has to do with what you value most in your life.

7. What do you enjoy learning?

This may sound more relating to choosing a course, career, degree , college or university. But it is not necessarily that way. Think about what skill, subject or topic make you lose track of time. Is it the teacher or the subject matter that holds your interest?

8. What do you do in your free time?

What kinds of stories you follow in the news, or what are your favorite books and websites all about? It is important fro you to know what things make you curious and lead you to inquire more about the topic.

9. Pick a job for a day, if you could do anything, what would you do?

Think about which careers and jobs come to your mind. Try to discover what is it about them that you find so appealing? Or possible think what would you change in a job to make it better for you?

10. What did you want to become when you were a kid?

Although those dreams may sound silly or crazy now, it is important to remember your childhood dreams. Think about the reasons behinds your choices as a kid and try to find what has always been important to you.

 

Keep asking yourself questions like these and you’ll make important discoveries about who you are.
